The Hunger games
April 30th, 2012
This month I read a book which is called “The Hunger Games”. I am sure that most people in this school read this book but I’ll still talk about it. So, the setting is set in the future. Each year, one boy and one girl from each district go to the hunger games. The hunger games are to mention for all districts how they attacked the capital and how they lost. The main character is Katniss. When her sister ticket was held up, she volunteered to go instead of her sister to save her life. Another main character is Peeta, a baker’s son. Katniss falls in love with him, but unfortunately she will have to kill him.
I like this book because it has a lot of strange places, everyone does their best, but the only thing you don’t usually find in adventure books is jokes. Even if there are not a lot of them, especially in the ending, they are really funny. Obviously, it is an adventurous book, it is really exciting and you cannot stop reading it, you cannot talk about it in a few sentences. You have to say everything, otherwise your friend cannot understand.
Also, I like this book because there are so many different characters and each one has such a different personality, it makes the book more interesting and if you know all of them and you can see which one is which one, you can see how they look and find out some characteristics. I liked all of them, especially Rue, because she was so friendly to Katniss and they helped each other.
You should really read this book because it is fascinating. After you read the book, you could watch the movie, but don’t watch movie first because it can get confusing. I think, this book is mainly for teenagers but a bit younger kids can watch it too. So don’t miss the best book and movie in the world!
Moving Day
March 6th, 2012
I’ve read a book called Moving Day by Meg Cabot. It’s the first book of the series Allie Finkle’s Rules For Girls. When Allie’s parents tell her and her brothers that they are going to move Allie just want to die! Allie doesn’t want to leave her best friend or her school to move to an old Victorian house!
I like this book because it’s exiting and a real page-turner. Allie does so many hilarious and weird things; one example is when she let her friend’s cat out. The cat was an exhibition cat and had never been outside before. Luckily the cat returned safely home after a while however it was extremely dirty and he fur was completely ruined. You can’t stop reading this book!
Another reason I love this book is because Meg Cabot is a fabulous writer. She has written over 50 books that have been translated to several languages. Some examples of Meg Cabot’s books are JINX (which I’m reading now), TEEN IDOL, THE AVALON HIGH SERIES, THE ALLIE FINKLE’S RULES FOR GIRLS SERIES, HOW TO BE POPULAR and several more! She writes books for kids, teens and adults.
I read this book while I was moving to Switzerland, which was a very good timing but even thought you’re not moving I recommend you to read Moving Day! It’s a extremely entertaining and fun book for girls!
Numbers by Rachel Ward
February 4th, 2012
How does it feel to know everyone’s date of death in the whole world? Numbers, written by Rachel Ward, is a book that keeps you in suspense from the very beginning until the end of the book. A book tells the story about 15-year-old Jem, a girl who does not like relationships, and Spider, a guy who is an outsider.
I really enjoyed reading this book because I could not stop reading it since I had sat and started to read. Jem is a girl who has a strange power, when she looks into someone’s eyes she can see numbers, which create a date; a date of that person’s death. The books gets more tension when Jem and Spider are waiting in a queue for a ride on the London Eye. Jem discovers that every single person has the same date… That day’s date.
Another reason why I liked this book, is that Ward writes the book in quite simple language with no complex words, which is easy to understand and thus is perfect for teenagers.
If you would like to know what happens afterwards, you should read this book. I would recommend it to everybody, not only teenagers, but adults as well.

Rubin rot
January 15th, 2012
A book I have read over the winter holiday is called Rubin rot. It is a German book written by Kerstin Gier. It is a fantasy, love book for girls of an age of 12-13 years. There is also a movie and two more books.
There are lots of characters in this book but the most important one is Gwendolyn. Gwendolyn is 16 years old and has 2 little siblings; one little sister called Caroline and one little brother called nick. She has a best friend called Leslie who knows everything about this secret. Gwendolyn’s cousin charlotte is the one everyone thought had the power and her mother Glenda is a very mean and strict person. Gwendolyn’s mother however is very nice and does everything to help Gwendolyn.
The main character is Gwendolyn. She is 16 years old and has a special family. They think that her cousin Charlotte has a special power and she can travel to the past. All her life she has been trained for this but then suddenly they find out that it is not Charlotte who has this power it is Gwendolyn. All the family is shocked and Gwendolyn is not prepared for this yet. This gets very dangerous for her.
She doesn’t know who do meet the king or speak 4 different languages fluently. A group of experts try to help her however it is very difficult. She and her partner Gideon have to travel to the past to finish an important mission. But then she falls in love with him, which makes this situation a lot more complicated. Both of them have to be very careful and act like they are from the middle ages otherwise thy could get killed very easily Gwendolyn’s cousin Charlotte and Charlottes mother Glenda are very mat at Gwendolyn because she has the special power and not her cousin.
I really like the book because it is interesting, funny and sad at some parts.
Holes
November 4th, 2011
The story of “Holes” is about a boy named Stanley Yelnats who was punished for a crime that he did not commit so he was sent to a camp named “Camp Green Lake” and he had to dig holes all day for some reasons. Camp green lake is a huge desert where you cannot escape from because there is not water around kms. He soon realizes that there is more going on digging holes to build character and the warden is up to something… At the camp Stanley meets a mysterious boy named Zero. Zero is very shy and doesn’t talk to anyone but Stanley. At the end of the book both of them have some adventures and realize that there are a lot of connections with their family’s past. They also realized why they had to dig holes during the camp…
My favorite character is Zero because he is really mysterious and you always want to know more about him while reading the book. He has also a past which is really hidden. He actually looks inoffensive but he is really brave to save any friends, like Stanley. Zero is really brave, smart but doesn’t really show it and has a very sweet heart. That is why Zero is my favorite character.
My favorite moment of the book is when Zero and Stanley ran away from the camp. Zero took a shovel and hit the counselor then ran away as fast as he could knowing he could die from thirst in the desert and Stanley ran away with him. It was really exciting, funny and there was a lot of suspense. It was a really adventurous scene that is why I liked it.
I really recommend this book because it is really for all kinds of readers. I love how the author wrote the book, he used excellent used of vocabulary, it described the characters so well and it is for both boys and girls. When you start reading it, you never want to stop it is really exciting. It is full of humor, irony, and mystery! The book was perfect to the last chapter.
Narnia The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe
May 30th, 2011
The book I am going to present is called Narnia the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. It is a fantasy and adventure book. It is for children of an age of 9-12.
The main characters in this story are: Lucy, Edmund, Susan, and Peter. All of them are siblings. Lucy is the youngest of them and also the first one that finds the other world called “Narnia”. Edmund is little older than Lucy. He was the one that met the white witch in Narnia. Susan is the second oldest kid. When she first heard of Narnia she didn’t believe Lucy but then after Susan visited it, she changed her opinion. On the end of the story she gets crowned the Queen of Narnia. Peter is the oldest of the siblings. Same as with Susan, on the beginning he didn’t believe of Narnia but then he changed his mind. On the end he fights against the white which and gets crowned the king of Narnia. Other important characters are the White Which, Aslan and the Professor Digory Kirke. The white witch is Narnia’s self-proclaimed queen. Aslan is a Lion. He is the true ruler of Narnia. And Professor Digory Kirke is the man that lets Lucy, Edmund, Susan and Peter live with him after leaving their actual house London. (Because of the war)
This story is about Lucy, Edmund, Susan and Peter. It starts at the time were the war was going on. The children were send away to the countryside of England; to a professor called Digory Kirke. He lived in a huge house so the children decided to explore it. A few days later they had nothing to do and started playing games. While they were playing “to hide”, Lucy found a wardrobe. She thought that it was a great place to hide and went in. Lucy noticed that it was a really long wardrobe. She walked all the way in there and got into a really nice white Forrest. There she met a strange animal-human that invited her for a cup of tea. When Lucy got back she told her siblings about her little journey. But nobody believed her. The next day all 4 went in there. They met an animal family that told them the basic things of Narnia. After a little while Edmund separated of them and met the white witch. She offered him some food and brought him to her castle. Her castle was full of stone statues of her enemies that she changed into stone. Later he found out that it was a bad witch and she tricked him with her kindness on the beginning.
While all that happened the other children noticed that he was missing. Then they met Aslan. He was really nice so they children asked him about their brother. Aslan heard about Edmund and knew that he was in the witch castle. Then the witch wanted to talk to Aslan in privacy. She said that he had Edmund and would kill him. On the same day Aslan escaped with Lucy and Susan. He tolled them they did a decision. Which was that Aslan would get killed but Edmund would be free. Then the witch killed Aslan with a knife. The next day Aslan woke up. (Even though he should be death) He thought a long time about it and than he remembered that if someone would willingly die for another person they would survive/wake up. That was his case as well. Then when Lucy, Edmund, Susan and Peter came the next day to the place where Aslan was killed they were really surprised. So all of them went to the which castle and the children entered Aslans army. Aslan called his other people and they fight against the witch. Peter was the one that killed the witch. Then Peter was crowned king and Susan Queen of Narnia. When they then got back into the wardrobe the time didn’t change from last time and the door opened. The professor got in and the children told him the long story.
I really like this book because it is a nice story and I love adventure- fantasy books. You should read it because it is really interesting, funny and nice.
L’appel de l’ange
May 6th, 2011
‘‘L’appel de l’ange ’’ is a action book that I read during the holidays. The reason why I chose to write about it is because it is for teenagers and it is one of my favorite book. One of the reason why I really like thisbook is because it is both about the technology of today and about an action story. In this essay, I will write a breath summary of the book, talk about the technollogical and action aspect of the book.
The beginning of the story starts in New York’s airport. In the departure lounge, one man and one woman walk into each other. A brief verbal fight follows but a few minutes later, everybody go their way. Madeline and Jonathan, the two main characters did not meet before and were not supposed to see each other in the future. But while they were picking up their stuff, they accidentally swop their cell phones. When they realized what they had done, 10’000 kilometres were separating them, Madeline was in Paris and Jonathan in San Francisco. However, having to take care of each other’s phone, they took the time to explore each other’s phone. By looking at it, they each found information which nobody were supposed to know. This book written by “Guillaume Musso” is very interesting.
One of the reason why I like this book is for the combination between his technological aspects and this very interesting action story. First, it is technological because they swop their phones and learnt basically everything about each other. The book is from this year, therefore, very recent. So the author uses programs that we have today and that make the book even more interesting. I also like the fact that at the beginning, you are not at all waiting for some action but as you keep reading, the story changes completely. The action part of the book starts when Jonathan makes a discovery in Madeline’s life, she was in her early life in the police. By searching more and more on her phone, he finds out that she tried to committed suicide because of a investigation that she could not solve. Later in the book, Jonathan wants to try and solve it again with the help of Madeline and it is what they do…
I cannot tell you more about it because if you want to read it, I would ruin the story. In conclusion, it is one of my favourite book, I state some reasons why above but I forgot to mention that the author write books especially for teenagers so that make it more interesting for us.
Class A
May 5th, 2011
I have read the book Class A by Robert Muchamore and I thought it was really good! The book is about a boy called James and he is a spy even though he is only about 13 years old. He lives in the orphanage called Cherub, Cherub is a school and an orphanage but there is one thing that you have to do to live there. You have to agree to be a spy. All the students that are spies are in between 10-17 years old but there are students that are younger but they can’t be spies until they are 10 years old. In this book James goes out on a mission with his best friend Kyle, a girl that he likes called Kerry and another girl called Nicole. Their mission is to find out things about a drug dealer called Keith Moore by become friends with his kids. James starts to deliver drugs to become a closer friend with Keith. Keith and his two sons always goes to holiday together but this year James comes with them… how will it go?? Will they succeed with their mission or not??
A reason to read this book is because the book is interesting from page one and not like sometimes when it takes a really long time for the book to be interesting and you have read about half of the book before it starts. Even though it is not the main thing that starts happening on the first page but another important and interesting thing.
Another reason to read the book is because it is very interesting. When I read it I couldn’t stop because I thought it was so good and interesting. I read this book in one day just because of that.
A third reason to read it is because it is not only “scary” it is also funny. When James isn’t on a mission it is really funny and even a bit when he is on the mission. But the book is mostly “scary” when James is on his mission.
So over all this is a really good book and I think it is worth to try to read. So… READ IT!
Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone
March 30th, 2011
This time I will talk about the book : Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. It is a great book which was written by an awesome writer: J.K. Rowling. She also wrote the other six books which are about Harry Potter .
I think that nearly everyone knows about what this book is about, but I will tell the story anyway as roughly and shortly as I can. Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone is about a boy who thinks that he is totally normal. Actually he is a wizard. After he figures out what and who he is, he goes to Hogwarts school for witchcraft and wizardry. Many things happen to him in this year and in every book it is Voldemorts (he killed Harrys parents) fault that he can’t be a normal boy.
This was the rough summery of the book. Now I would like to talk about what the differences are between the German and the English books. Also which book I prefer the most.
I saw several differences between the German and the English book. J.K. Rowling wrote the book in English so it is like she wrote it. The German book got translated from English to German. I think and I know, by reading both of them, that there are a few differences and that the translation is sometimes different than it is supposed to be. The English book is much more real and it is like she wrote it, so I prefer the English book more than the German book.
The Harry Potter books are really nice to read and very easy to understand. If you don’t know them at all I would really recommend you reading them in English. If you just read them in your mother-tongue you should also definitely read them in English.
I personally found them really great and I hope you also enjoy reading them. Have fun!!
